JenaKultur - the municipal enterprise for culture and cultural education founded in 2005 - ensures that people feel at home in Jena with its diverse and varied leisure activities.
Whether the inspiring concerts of the Jena Philharmonic Orchestra, the top-class art and city history exhibitions of the Jena Municipal Museums, the countless courses and lectures at the adult education center, the wide range of musical and artistic educational offerings of the Jena Music and Art School or the sophisticated readings in the Ernst Abbe Library - integration and participation, communication, encounters, information and entertainment are of great importance everywhere.
The numerous special projects and themed years also encourage people of all ages to engage with history in order to understand the present and shape the future. The aim is always to contribute to the attractiveness of the City of Light as a soft location factor at a high level. The Long Nights of Museums and Science, the Jena Cultural Arena, as well as all the markets and city festivals have long been attracting visitors from beyond the region - as have the Jena Philharmonic Orchestra and the local art collection. This also benefits the City of Light's tourism marketing, which is docked in the city's own company and ensures short distances to all guests.
JenaKultur also performs important sovereign tasks, similar to a cultural office. These include, for example, the promotion of monuments and culture.
15 years of JenaKultur
In 2020, the in-house operation celebrated its 15th anniversary. A year that showed us the importance of culture like no other and at the same time made us fear for its continued existence and still does. Many events were planned - finally, JenaKultur celebrated digitally: with a story-telling website that provides a multi-layered and emotional look behind the scenes and takes you on a journey through time to great achievements, important projects and the people behind them.
